Robert will do anything to get the big account that has eluded him. His public relations business makes public angels of rich scoundrels. Jean needs someone to save the paper and she wants Robert. When he finds out that Pat is dating Lorri, John Dillingwell's granddaughter, he gets involved. Robert begins to make John the most hated man and Lorri blames Pat, the publisher. He then goes to John for a job to erase all the bad publicity that he has gotten from the paper. This works until Pat tells John that Robert was behind the smear campaign. Bob owns his own PR firm and is out to get the account of John P. Dillingwell, one of the wealthiest men in America but also the most hated and who has a penchant for miniature trains and sicking his attack dogs on people he doesn't like. He is hated because Bob secretly led a smear campaign against Dillingwell when he was editor-in-chief all in the name of Dillingwell figuring he needed a good PR person. In trying to get Dillingwell's business, Bob goes after Dillingwell's granddaughter, Lorri Dillingwell, who happens to be Pat's fiancée. The secret identity of a H. Louis Brown adds another layer of complexity into the proceedings. As each of Bob, Jean, Pat and Lorri do whatever they need to get what they want professionally, their personal lives also mesh, with it never too clear which boy is with which girl and if any boy will end up with any girl.
